Braves Could Have At Least Half Of Ozzie Albies Available For Playoff Push
Atlanta Braves middle infielder Ozzie Albies is expected to miss at least the first round of the playoffs after suffering a broken foot.
The Braves are hopeful that Albies will be able to return at some point during the National League Division Series or National League Championship Series if Atlanta advances that far.
Albies suffered the injury in the fifth inning of the Braves' 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. He was running to first base on a ground ball when he stepped on a sprinkler head and rolled his ankle.
Albies was immediately taken out of the game and underwent X-rays, which revealed the broken foot.
The Braves are currently in first place in the National League East and are likely to make the playoffs. Albies is a key part of the Braves' offense, so his absence will be a big blow.
The Braves are hopeful that Albies will be able to return at some point during the playoffs, but they are not ruling out the possibility that he could miss the entire postseason.
Albies is batting .265 with 17 home runs and 58 RBIs this season.
The Braves have several options to replace Albies at second base, including Johan Camargo, Charlie Culberson, and Adeiny Hechavarria.
Camargo is the most likely candidate to start in Albies' place. He is a good fielder and has some pop in his bat.
Culberson is a veteran who can play multiple positions. He is not as good of a fielder as Camargo, but he is a better hitter.
Hechavarria is a good fielder, but he is not much of a hitter. He is likely to be used as a defensive replacement late in games.
The Braves are confident that they can win the World Series even without Albies. They have a deep lineup and a strong pitching staff.
But Albies' absence will be a blow, and the Braves will need someone to step up and fill his shoes.
